How to create custom canva frames and cut outs design ?

In this tutorial, You will learn two design techniques in Canva.

• How to create custom canva frames?

Let’s start with the first one.

How to Create Custom canva frames?

In the Canva library, You can find hundreds of beautiful frames. Canva creative team is adding new frames in their library frequently. Sometimes available frames do not fulfill our requirements. So we need to create them from scratch.

To create customized canva frames, we need to get support from photopea, an online version of Adobe Photoshop.

Step 1 – Select your desired shape and turned it into complete black. In the case of an image, use brightness with reduced saturation. For elements, change all the colors into black.

Step 2- Download this slide as a PNG/JPG image.

Step 3- Upload this image in photopea. Apply the magic Wand effect on a specific area that you need to cut out or make transparent. Download this image now as PNG from photopea.

Step 4- Upload it again into Canva. Now your custom-made frame is ready. You can use it over any image or element as per your design need. Once you adjust it over your design, remove the background to get a clear look of your frame from the borders.

I have also contacted the canva support team to add this feature "Magic Wand" to their platform. They did not only appreciate the suggestion but were quite willing to add it in the future. See below a snippet of my communication with the canva team for your reference.

How to create cutouts designs in Canva?

Cut out is an amazing design technique.  If you search it on Youtube, You will find video tutorials but all those designs created in Adobe Illustrator. Some of my canva buddies created almost the same design in Canva. I have tried to create something similar to this design technique. Below is my design created by getting inspiration from this technique.

How to create eye catching Text effects in Canva ?

Whether you are a beginner or a master in Canva, this tutorial would be very informative for you. In this tutorial, I will discuss a different kinds of text effects in Canva. With no surprise, all are supper easy to create in Canva.

Before moving forward, I suggest you convert your Canva account from free to pro. If you are not using the pro version then avail 30 days freetrial and learn about canva features in detail.

Let me first get you familiar with the available text effects in Canva. See the below snippet for your quick reference.

 

Canva also has some outstanding letter frames in its elements section. One of my Canva buddies “Naeem Malik” has recently shared all kinds of available letters through his Instagram feed. See the below link for your reference.

The only issue to use these letters is that you need to search every letter of your word one by one in the same category. It may become very time-consuming but final results would always be amazing.

Let's start with some of the text effects which I have created through canva effects i.e Duetone, Liquify, Glitch and Shadows.

 

How to create eye catching Text effects in Canva ?

Text Effect 1 – 

Step 1 – Write any text of your choice.

Step 2 – Apply text effect “Lift”.

Step 3 – Make five copies of this lifted text effect. Place them on top of each other and grouped them.

Step 4 – Keep the same background color that you use for text color, Now you can see the amazing 3D text effect on your slide. You can make it more creative using your imagination based on your design need.

 

Text Effect 2 – 

Step 1 – Download your lifted text effect created with “Text effect 1” as PNG/JPG and upload it again.

Step 2 – Go to effects – Glitch – Apply “Trace” as per the below detail.

Step 3 – Apply any “Duotone” effect of your choice, I have applied “Mustard” for this design.

 

Text Effect 3 – 

Step 1 – Apply the “wobble” effect on your next design created through “Text effect 2”. See the below snippet for your quick reference.

Text Effect 4 – 

Step 1 – Download your lifted text effect as PNG “Transparent file” without background.

Step 2 – Upload it again and apply the effect “split”. See the below snippet for your quick understanding.

Text Effect 5 – 

Step 1 – Use your lifted text effect with transparent background. apply effect “trace” as per the below detail.

Step 2 – Apply effect “Smear” with the below adjustments.

Text Effect 6 – 

Step 1 – Write any text of your choice and download it as a PNG/Transparent file.

Step 2 – Apply shadow “Glow” as per the below detail and see some outstanding results. You can use these text effects for food brands.

How to create water shadow effect for text in Canva ?

To create water shadows in Canva, we first need to analyze the water type, which means shadows would be different for static or moving water. Let me show two examples for which I have created a video recently for your quick understanding.

How to create a shadow effect for static and moving water?

Step 1 - Type a text you want on a separate slide and make a copy of it.

Step 2 - Use font “Glitch” for a second copy.

Step 3 - Download this slide as PNG transparent file and upload it again.

Step 4 - Now add this text on the upper side of the water, crop it half with the main text, If your water is static then flip the main text vertically and reduce the transparency up to 60 or 70% but if your water is moving then use the glitch text with vertically flipped position, also reduce its transparency.

You can increase the brightness of text or make it blurry through adjustment for a more real-looking effect.

How to create animated video in Canva for space night ?

A famous Facebook group “Canva design circle” always offers different design challenges in the group for Canva designers. I try to participate in most of the challenges because it helps to improve our design skills as well as enhances our creativity by utilizing different elements and features available within Canva.

How to win one year Canva pro free subscription ?

In the recent challenge, we had to create a design for starry starry night 😊 so I thought to create some design using space night view. Below is my submission to this challenge.

Although I could not win but learned a lot of new things that’s why sharing them here with all my Canva buddies for their learning.

Step 1 – Select images of your choice from the Canva Photo section.

Step 2 – Remove background for certain images to apply animations on each. Recently Canva added a feature for animation where we can apply different animations on more than one photo or object at the same time on one page. This is a great addition by Canva. If you want to apply animation on any element then download the element first as PNG and upload it again to animate it.

Download all photos and elements

Below is the snippet for your quick reference, For this design, I have selected “Drift” for space shuttle and spaceman.

Step 3- In order to give the real look to the planet Mars in this design, I have added a shadow “Glow” behind it with some orange / reddish color, reduce the transparency and increase the blur for an authentic look.

Step 4- Download this slide or if you have more than one slide then select all first and save as MP4.
